The European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation will replace the UK’s existing data protection legislation when it becomes applicable on 25 May 2018. The underlying general principles of the GDPR are very similar to the existing principles under the current UK Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA). However the GDPR contains more specific requirements for the use and protection of personal data than the existing legislation.
